Jonathan Horey, M.D., one of our chief residents, graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Spanish Translation and Interpretation. As an undergraduate, he was involved in clinical research in Urology that focused on quality of life measures for post-prostatectomy patients, resulting in a paper presentation at the American Urological Association annual meeting in 2001. As a medical student at Columbia, he was awarded an NIH summer research grant in 2003 working on use of MRI for prostate cancer staging and was awarded the Dean's Day Research Award in 2006 for this research. He graduated AOA from Columbia P&S in 2006 and received the Dr. William Raynor Watson award for excellence in psychiatry during medical school. During his psychiatry residency here at Columbia/NYSPI, Jonathan has continued research started in medical school investigating substance abuse patterns and antisocial behavioral syndromes in cocaine and marijuana users. This has lead to a poster presentation at the AAAP annual meeting in 2003, a publication in 2008 in the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, being awarded the Resident Travel Stipend to attend the AAAP annual meeting in 2008 and receiving Honorable Mention in the New York State Psychiatric Association MIT Scientific Paper Contest.
