Madhukar Hariprasad Trivedi, M.D. holds the Betty Jo Hay Distinguished Chair in Mental Health and is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Trivedi earned his MD at Baroda Medical College in Baroda, India. He completed residencies in Psychiatry at the Medical College at University General Hospital in Baroda, India and at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Dr. Trivedi is Director of the Mood Disorders Research Program and Clinic at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The program focuses on understanding the neurobiology and psychology of depression and mood disorders, with a particular focus on identifying biological and psychological abnormalities. Dr. Trivedi is co-Director of National Coordinating Center NIMH funded Sequenced Treatment Alternatives to Relieve Depression (STAR*D), a multicenter 4000+ patient clinical trial for patients with Major Depressive Disorder in real clinical practice for both primary care and specialty care settings. Dr. Trivedi has been integrally involved as the co-director since the planning and inception of this, the largest clinical trial for patients with MDD. He has authored more than 300 papers and book chapters.
