What are the treatments of gender identity disorder?

Answered by: Michael First

First treatment would be counseling to help explore options, like whether one would be interested in transition to the desired gender. Once a decision is made to do that, usually the next step is hormone treatment to begin the transition and also living as a member of the desired gender for a period of time to make sure that this is something the person wants to do. Only then does it make sense to move towards more irreversible procedures like surgery.
