Americans are notorious for overeating on Thanksgiving yet often regret their overindulgence and inactivity, behavior that can carry over into the entire holiday season and pose serious health consequences down the road. Dr. Wahida Karmally, director of nutrition for the Irving Center for Clinical Research and associate research scientist at Columbia University Medical Center, can offer tips for a healthy, nutritious, and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. She can discuss how to balance large meals with physical activity, provide advice on how to cook wholesome, cardioprotective low-calorie Thanksgiving dishes, and offer insights about eating the right fats from the right foods.

Dr. Karmally has acted as national spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and nutrition committee chairman of the American Heart Association (AHA)''s New York City Chapter. She has served on several additional AHA committees—including cholesterol education, public policy and government affairs, women and heart disease, and preventive cardiology—as a two-term board member of the organization. She chaired the ADA committee that developed evidence-based recommendations and practice guidelines for the nutritional management of lipid metabolism disorders and is currently the NY delegate to ADA''s House of Delegates.

For press inquiries, please contact Elizabeth Streich (eas2125@columbia.edu or 212-305-6535) or Alex Lyda(mal2133@columbia.edu or 212-305-0820).
