Dr. Peter Green is the Director of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University Medical Center. He is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University and Attending Physician at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Dr. Green received his medical degree from University of Sydney, Australia. After completing his Residency and GI fellowship in Sydney he became a Research fellow at Harvard Medical School and in the Gastroenterology Department at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology as well as a Member of the American Gastroenterologic Association and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Green is a former President of the New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and remains on the Council of the Society. He was on the Postgraduate Educational Committee, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and a founding member of the Clinical Teaching Project, a committee established by the American Gastroenterological Association to develop teaching materials for gastroenterologists. In addition, he has lectured on celiac disease at many medical institutions throughout the United States as well as national and international meetings.

The Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University was established within the Department of Medicine at Columbia University in 2001. Its mission: to redefine the future of celiac disease and treatment on an ongoing basis, through continuing advances in research, patient care, and physician and public education.

Under the guidance of Peter Green, M.D., one of a few recognized experts on celiac disease in the United States, the Center has become world-renowned for its services and programs and is one of the first medical school based centers in the United States dedicated to the treatment and study of celiac disease.

The Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University Medical Center is one of a few centers in the United States that provides comprehensive medical care, including nutritional counseling, for adult and pediatric patients with celiac disease. All of the Center research is directed toward celiac disease clinical, epidemiology, and mechanisms of pathogenesis of celiac disease and patient and physician education. The Center has more than 18 clinical trial/research projects occurring at any given time.
