Wilfred Van Gorp, Ph.D.

Dr. van Gorp is Professor of Clinical Psychology and Director of Neuropsychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He is a clinical and research neuropsychologist who sees patients for evaluation in addition to conducting scientific research. An active member of his profession, Dr. van Gorp is past president of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology and a past member of the Council of Representatives of the American Psychological Association. Dr. van Gorp serves as Editor of the peer-reviewed scientific journal, Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology. He has served on the Executive Committee of the International Neuropsychological Society as well as the Neuropsychology Division (Division 40) of the American Psychological Association.

Clinically, Dr. van Gorp evaluates patients with a wide variety of cognitive or neurologic disorders including ADHD, head injury, dementia, learning disability, memory impairment, and other cognitive/brain conditions. He has appeared on CNN, 60 Minutes, and Court TV, profiled in The New Yorker, and interviewed by The New York Times.

Dr. van Gorp has over 25 years’ experience in evaluating persons with brain injury or dysfunction, as well as helping them cope with memory impairment and potential avenues to return to work. He works closely with persons wishing an evaluation to determine whether accommodations in the workplace, classroom or testing environment might help them achieve their maximum level of academic or professional success. He also has considerable experience in the courtroom, testifying on behalf of both plaintiff and defense sides in civil litigation and prosecution and defense sides in criminal matters.
