Dr. Nira Nafisi is an Instructor of Psychology at Columbia University and a Research Scientist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI), Department of Neuroscience, New York, NY.

At NYSPI, she is Project Coordinator of a research study attempting to systematically classify suicidal ideation and behavior in an emergency room setting. She is also a primary assessor on a prospective study aimed to determine state and trait predictors of suicide attempts. She is a past student representative of the APA’s Society of Clinical Psychology Section on Clinical Emergencies and Crises. She has a special interest and expertise in Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy treatments for depression and anxiety disorders.

Dr. Nafisi received her BA from New York University and her doctorate in clinical psychology from St. John’s University.
