Lirio Covey's current research activities focus on the relationship between smoking, smoking cessation, and suicide related outcomes, for which she has received funding to perform secondary analysis of clnical trial and epidemiological data. Other areas of interest and activity are Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Major Depression and their relationships to smoking and smoking cessation. She is also associated with NIDA's Clinical Trial Network for which she continues her work in comparing smoking cessation treatment response by race/ethnicity. Dr. Covey is a member of the Smoking Cessation Section of the Society of Quality Practitioners of NY Presbyterian Hospital which developed the Web-based Training Program for Smoking Cessation Treatment Providers.

| Dr. Covey's research is focused on nicotine dependence, its comorbidity with psychiatric illnesses in particular depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, alcohol dependence, and development of smoking cessation treatments.
