Dr. David Kimhy is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the City College of New York and his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University.

Dr. Kimhy completed internship training in adult clinical psychology at Hillside Hospital – Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and a post-doctoral Research Fellowship in Schizophrenia at Columbia University. He was a Beck Institute Scholar (2007/8) at The Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research.

Dr. Kimhy's funding includes a research grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to study the mechanisms of recovery from psychosis in schizophrenia, and a grant from the National Alliance for Research of Schizophrenia and Affective Disorders (NARSAD) to study the influence of physiological arousal on paranoid ideation in schizophrenia. Dr. Kimhy has a part-time private practice in general adult and adolescent psychotherapy and neuropsychological assessment.

Dr. Kimhy’s research focuses on translational studies of development and recovery from psychosis. Particular interest is the integration of cognitive and neurobiological models of emotion regulation and psychosis.
