Dr. Diane Klein is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, and a clinical research psychiatrist with the Eating Disorders Research Unit at the New York State Psychiatric Institute.
Dr. Klein received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, and her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed residency training in Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and a Research Fellowship in Affective, Anxiety and Related Disorders at Columbia University.
Dr. Klein’s research consists of translational studies in eating disorders. She has funding support from NARSAD and from the NIMH to study exercise motivation and physical activity in women with Anorexia Nervosa, and taste responsivity across the eating disorders. Dr. Klein's research applies approaches used in feeding neuroscience and in addictions research to the study of disordered eating behavior and physical activity in people with eating disorders, with the goal of advancing our understanding, and ultimately our treatment, of these conditions.

Studies apply approaches used in feeding neuroscience and addictions research to the examination of eating behavior and physical activity in people with eating disorders. Specific interests include quantification of physical activity levels, and assessment of motivation for sweet tastes and for exercise behavior in people with Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa.
