Allison S. Baker, MD is a Board Certified Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist specializing in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders in children and adults. As Director of The Adolescent Program at Columbia’s Midtown practice, Dr. Baker leads an intensive outpatient program for adolescents struggling with complex mood and anxiety symptoms as well as compulsive behaviors. Dr. Baker combines her passion for working with adolescents and her interest in parenting and attachment in every clinical encounter, and believes that involving an individual’s family is a critical ingredient for successful treatment. She has a special interest in dialectical behavioral therapy, substance use disorders in adolescents, and adolescents transitioning to college.
Dr. Baker received her B.Sc. degree from Queens University in Kingston, Canada, and an M.D. from the University of Virginia, where she was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha society for clinical and academic excellence. She completed her residency in general Psychiatry at Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute where she served as Chief Resident. Throughout her medical training, Dr. Baker has enjoyed opportunities to teach college students, medical students and residents interested in Psychiatry. Dr. Baker worked in The Women’s Program at Columbia treating psychiatric disorders in pregnant women and in the postpartum period with psychotherapy and medications. She served as a study therapist on Dr. Margaret Spinelli’s NIMH funded study of Interpersonal Psychotherapy for the treatment of antepartum depression in pregnancy.
Dr. Baker trained in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the New York Presbyterian Hospital combined program of Columbia and Cornell Universities. During her fellowship, she was distinguished for her scholarship, empathy and excellence in psychiatry with the prestigious Barbara Ann Liskin Award.
