Description: Ethnographic observations of the social organization of adolescent relationships suggests that traditional ideas about courtship have been replaced with new scripts that organize dating and hooking up. The talk will present methodologies for operationalizing measurement of relationship scripts in quantitative studies, and discuss the pay-off, problems, and pitfalls of these methods. Drawing on the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, I will present preliminary findings as well.
